Student Fees

Student fees consist of mandatory UC System-wide fees established by The Regents of the University of California and miscellaneous campus-based fees.

Mandatory UC System-wide Fees

Tuition: This fee (formerly called Education Fee) is charged to all graduate and undergraduate students and covers part of the general support of the university, including student financial aid.

Student Services Fee: This fee is charged to all graduate and undergraduate students for services that benefit students and are complementary to, but not part of, the instructional program. The Student Services Fee Advisory Committee (SSFAC), primarily graduate and undergraduate students, but also including a representation of faculty and staff, advises the Chancellor on the allocation decisions related to the Student Services Fee. Non-Resident Tuition: Nonresidents of California are charged, in addition to all other applicable fees, non-resident tuition to cover the general support of the university.

Professional School Fees: These fees are charged to all professional school students (students who are currently enrolled in the M.B.A and M.D. Programs), in addition to all other applicable fees, and vary for each professional degree program.  Future Professional School Fees will be instituted as Schools/programs are established.

UCR Campus-Based Fees

Mandatory UCR campus-based fees assessed to all graduate and/or undergraduate students support a variety of campus-specific, student-related expenditures and programs that are not covered by the mandatory UC-system-wide fees above. These fees include:

  • Recreation Center Fee
  • Division I Fee
  • Highlander Fee
  • KUCR Fee
  • UC Student Association Fee
  • UCR Student Services Fee
  • Health Insurance Premium
  • Student Center (Commons) Fee
  • Graduate Student Association Fee
  • GSA Conference Travel Grant
  • GSA Fee Fellowship
  • Associated Students (ASUCR) Fee
  • Associated Students Program Board (ASPB) Fee
  • Educational Opportunity Program Fee
  • The Green Campus Action Plan (GCAP)

Self-Supporting Program Fees

In addition to regular degree programs supported by State funds, fees are charged for various self-supporting programs including University Extension and Self-Supporting Graduate and Professional Degree Programs such as The Self-Supporting MBA and the Master’s of Fine Arts.  The fee for each specific self-supporting program cohort is determined by each School and is approved by the Campus and the Office of the President.

Course Material and Services Fees (CMSF)

The Chancellor has the authority to establish CMSF to recover the costs of materials, supplies, equipment and support services not covered by the normal instructional budget.
